Mariposa Grove Community

Cohousing Community

Mariposa Grove is a residential community focused on creativity & social change in North Oakland. It is comprised of four adjacent buildings on 59th and 60th streets - three containing condos, and one multi-family house.

Mariposa Grove has shared space for many meals, creative pursuits and collaborations, office space, workshop, gardens, etc. In some ways we're still building this place, and we’re looking for others to join us.

Among the folks here (both in the affordable condos and in the house next door) we include 6 couples, 4 single adults, 5 children under 6, a 13 yr old and 2 college students. We love to cook for each other, make music together, meet each other's friends, and build this community together.

Mission Statement

Mariposa grove is a member-owned, consensus-based intentional community in an urban setting that supports sustainability, social justice activism, creativity and the arts. We are creating a permanently affordable home, a physical and social space where we share resources and responsibilities, grow together and support each other to fulfill our personal dreams while providing a model for the larger community of which we are a part.

If you are still curious about Mariposa Grove, you can take a look at more photos of Mariposa Grove on the permaculture blog of Bob van de Walle, who lives in Willow House, the house adjacent to the condo properties. It's not at all comprehensive or official, but you can get a look at some of the projects we've been doing on the yard lately.
