Built Custom Content Management from Within

As Director of Web Development at New College of California I inherited a large and unwieldy static HTML marketing more than 20 academic programs. Because the site had been built by hand, the process of updating the menus throughout the site was grueling.

In addition, New College was not collecting inquiries on the site at all, and therefore we had no information about how many new students may have been attracted by the website.

Since we had no budget to automate the site, nor time to stop and embark on a full redesign, I decided to learn what I needed to implement content management incrementally from within. I compared asp, php and coldfusion, convinced the powers that be to give me a coldfusion license and built much functionality over a period of a few years.

I built an SQL database, created data structures for inquiry forms, menu automation, contact information and more. This provided the ability to quickly update crucial information throughout the site.
